I needed to post something on here. So, I decided on a book tag! No one has obviously tagged me but, these are such fun and I thought…why not! So here we go!
1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?
Not really. I read on my bed, the couch, the kitchen table, outside, on the floor, on the chair… I think you get the idea. If I can read there, I will.
2. Bookmark or a random piece of paper?
Bookmark definitely. But, my bookmark is actually like 6 bookmarks in one bookmark cover. So, my bookmark is pretty big.
3. Can you stop reading anytime you want or do you have to stop at a certain page, chapter, part, etc?
Well I never like to stop mid-chapter but, I will if I have to. But, as far as how many chapters to read or whatever, it’s usually until I get hungry, fall asleep, or have to go do something.
4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
Drink, yes. I drink water almost constantly. And, I also like to enjoy a cup of coffee or tea while reading. (Even though I’m known to forget about them and by the time I take a drink it’s freezing cold) Eat. Not all the time but I have been known to eat while reading. It just depends on how into the book I am and how easy it is to eat while reading that book. I’m quite the accident prone person, so if anyone would spill food on a book, it’d be me.
5. Can you read while listening to music/watching TV?
Nope! I can not keep my attention in a book while listening to music. And I can read while a TV is on but, I can’t actively watch a show and read at the same time.
6. One book at a time, or several at once?
Only one. I like to completely immerse myself in a world. And to be honest, I feel like I’m cheating on a book if I read another one at the same time.
7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I read everywhere I go. Unfortunately I get carsick if I read in the car too much. But, I still take a book with me everywhere I go. So, I can always read.
8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?
So, I read silently in my head. But, sometimes I say a line out loud or make a motion that a character says or does. I like to sometimes actually feel how that character is feeling. That’s just a weird reading habit of mine. (Let me known if anyone else does that so I don’t feel like a weirdo!)
9. Do you read ahead or skip pages?
NO! I have been known for my eyes to wander and then I see a spoiler on the next page and I’m like NOOOOOOO!!!!! So, sometimes I have to cover pages or lines with my hands to keep from accidentally seeing something. But, I never skip pages or read ahead. That’s like blasphemy!!
10. Breaking the spine or keeping it new?
I like to keep it as new as possible. Eventually, if I re-read a paperback too many times (cough-harrypotter-cough) the spine will inevitably become worn. But, I like to keep it as new as possible for as long as possible.
11. Do you write in books?
No. I like to keep them just as they are. Also, me and my sisters read all the same books, and I like for someone to experience the book without any outside influence. So, I don’t want them reading my notes and having their opinions swayed. I have started keeping a little reading journal to keep my thoughts together for doing possible book reviews. And that has worked so well.
So, there you have my first book tag. I don’t tag anyone else, but if you’re reading this and think this tag looks fun. Then go for it!! I love reading other people’s reading habits and routines. So, I’d love to hear from other people. Or if you’ve done this tag link it in the comments so I can see your’s!
**This is not a full review of the book, just some thoughts I had after finishing this book**
Possibly minor spoilers.
I got this book after hearing a lot about it from BookTube and it was always nicely displayed at Barnes and Noble. So, I took a chance. It took me a while to get into the book, not because of the writing or the story, but because I was in a mini-reading slump because I had been watching too many tv shows. After I started reading though I couldn’t stop.
This book was SO good. I expected there to be more action/adventure in the plot line but, I was pleasantly surprised to find a hint of mystery in what I was reading. There was also a sprinkle of romance without being overbearing. I really wish that it hadn’t said on the back ‘Two men love her.’ This totally gave it away. It was so obvious as to who was going to fall for her. I was also disappointed in yet another love triangle. This one though. Let me tell you. Nicely done, Sarah J. Maas.
Now onto characters. Calaena Sardothien. Dang. This girl. She’s an assassin. And as if it couldn’t get any cooler than that. She’s Adarlan’s MOST NOTORIOUS assassin. Everyone knows her name. Especially after she was captured and put into a death camp. A freaking death camp. So, yeah, she’s pretty BA. Now, I was excited for another super strong female lead but, I was like I’m never going to be able to relate to her. And since Sarah J. Maas is absolutely amazing, I was able to relate to her. Calaena is feminine, soft, and emotional. She loves food, fashion, books, and music (SHE PLAYS THE PIANO). Just, this character. I love her. And I can’t wait to see where she ends up.
Now onto the two boys. Chaol and Dorian. How do you choose between a prince and the Captain of the Guard. My answer any other time would be the Prince hands down. But, Chaol has my heart. Especially after the ending. I’m shipping Chaol and Calaena so hard. Especially since we saw Dorian and Calaena together a lot in this book.
So this book has stolen my heart and I can not wait to get my hands on the next one. I give this book a 5/5 definitely.

I have been recently looking through the book blogging community and decided I wanted to be a part of it! The main thing that pushed me into it was my recent book slump (let’s face it, no matter how much you love books you still get them). So, as a way to beat this I wanted to connect with other book lovers. So my first posts are going to be about me and the books, authors, and genres I read. I will also put out a disclaimer that I definitely will talk about TV shows I watch also because who doesn’t love a good tv show?!
So I hope to find not only fellow book lovers but also friends. I’m excited to start this journey and meet so many new people.
